You awake to the sound of your beeping alarm and pop out of bed rearing to go, why? Because it's time to go on your early morning run of course! You skip to your kitchen to wolf down your nutritious breakfast and lace up your tennis shoes and head for the door. You take one step outside and take a sharp whip of devastatingly cold air directly to the face as you look up and see a cluster of menacing storm clouds gathering in the sky above. Sounds like good running conditions, huh? Unless you are Storm from X-Men, it is likely you are going to dismally step back inside, shut the door behind you and trudge back to your bed feeling quite defeated.
This of course is a situation every dedicated runner faces from time to time. The fact of the matter is that no matter where you live you do not have control over the weather and when it decides to get a little moody. It is situations like this when owning a treadmill comes in especially handy. You can perform any of your training runs from the comfort and safety of your own home. There are a number of reasons why owning a treadmill can prove beneficial. Those living in highly populated areas may not find their neighborhood ideal for running due to traffic or the area simply being unsafe.
These however are only a few of the reasons to train on a treadmill. Used properly, your treadmill can prove to be an invaluable part of your training program. Not only does a treadmill allow you to run in safer conditions, it also provides you with 24/7 convenience, like your own personal gym that never closes. Couldn't find time in your day to squeeze in your run? What could be easier than throwing on your shoes for a quick 2 miles? Just about everyone can find 20 minutes or so to spare at the end of the day for this. Treadmills can also give you a kick in the butt and force you to be motivated about your fitness goals. It's all too easy to make excuses not to run when the weather is bad, or you don't have time to drive to the gym because work commitments have you tied up, right? Wrong - with you own treadmill waiting patiently for you when you get home, all of those excuses suddenly dissolve.
Treadmills are the best solution for the busy body individual. Have an important business call you don't want to miss? Not a problem, just put the phone next to you as you run. Have a young child that needs constant supervision? Put their crib or play area in view of your treadmill so you can monitor them as you get your exercise.
Treadmills are also the perfect answer your speed workout problems. It can be hard to determine the exact speed at which you are performing your workouts when running outdoors, but with a treadmill you can adjust the settings with precise accuracy and ensure that you are performing your workouts correctly. Another great feature of treadmills is their ability to elevate to mimic hill running. A lot of people may not live in an area that has many natural hills, this feature allows runners to put their treadmill on an incline for as long as they want to really enhance their workout.
Regardless of who you are or where you live, having your own treadmill will prove itself to be quite valuable to you at some point in time. Treadmills are a wonderful investment not only for your physical health but your emotional health as well, particularly in the cold months when those Winter blues start to set in!
